The Drowned Giant Visualisation Drawings
This university brief asked me to create three images to represent a short story, aiming to engage young people with reading in a new, visual way. I chose The Drowned Giant by J.G. Ballard, a story that follows a dead giant's deterioration after it washes up on a shoreline.
The tone of the story is somber and depressing, encouraging me to carry out three black and white, photo-realistic drawings. I placed the drawings onto simple landscape backgrounds created on Adobe Illustrator in order to emphasise their depth of detail.

At the beginning of the story, the dead giant washes up on the shore, and attracts the attention of the locals.

As the giant lies still on the beach, the locals begin to vandalise and take apart the giant, as curiosity turns to brutality.

By the end of the story, the giant has completely deteriorated, with only bare bones remaining.

The three images captured the dismal nature of the story, with the photo-realistic detail emphasising the curiosity of the locals in the narrative.
